Zespół Alcazar powstał w 1998 roku i na początku tworzyli go: Andreas, Tess i Annikafiore. W 2001 roku ukazała się pierwsza piosenka Alcazar, zatytułowana Crying at the Discotheque. Debiutancki album grupy, zatytułowany Casino ukazał się w tym samym roku, a promował go kolejny hit - singel Sexual Garantee.
W grudniu 2002 roku do zespołu dołączył Magnus Carlsson i tak powstał kwartet. Drugi album Alcazar - Alcazarized - ukazał się w Szwecji w 2003 roku. Pochodzący z tej płyty singel Someday stał się oficjalnym motywem przewodnim Gay Pride 2003 w Sztokholmie. W Europie płyta ukazała się w 2004 roku. Promowały ją dwa single: This Is The World We Live In i Phisical. Grupa w szwedzkich preselekcjach uczestniczyła 3 razy - w 2003 roku z utworem "Not A Sinner, Nor A Saint" zajęła 3 miejce w finale, dw lata później powrócili z utworem "Alcastar".
W 2007 roku do obecnych wokalistek Tess Merkel i Liny Hedlund dołączył po 6 latach od założenia zespołu, Andreas Lundstedt.
